Members Meeting Minutes of Meeting #176               April 7, 2026

Treasurer’s report:

Craig Smith, Treasurer, (not present) reported as of 1-30-26 the AFSA Checking account held $21,656.89 and the AFSA Janney investment account held $83,329.14.

Committee Reports

  • Legislative: Hooper working on finding a new lobbyist
  • Membership: Chris Amorese to push membership
  • Program: Chris Stone

October 22nd is the date for 2026 seminar at the Chesterfield Training Facility

  • Public Relations:

Hooper reported sprinkler save at VA Beach Towne Ctr parking garage

  • Social Media Committee:

MaryCatherine new updates on website, dates up to date, scholarship app on and golf sign up in May

  • Education/Apprenticeship:

Jeff Lewis Career Fair had 190 students and 7 companies participated, Mac & Derrick talked about Henrico program

  • Golf: Bill Jones will be the BSF ED –

September 9th shall be the next AFSA/BSF Golf Tournament, Williamsburg National

8) NextGen:

Dominique task group being built to refresh the Regency mall storefront

9)Community Projects:  Jeff Lewis

“Home for the Troops” in Mechanicsville key ceremony will by May 2nd, Jason Gill attending.  Thank you Jason for great work on this project. Spotsylvania has house #2 in process.

Hermitage Ctr – design done, summer labor, need a foreman for pipe, etc.

10)Scholarship: 

Jason Gill application in on our website and has been sent out to membership email list.  Open until April 30th.

11)Code Assistance:

      Joe nothing new to report

12)BSF Charity Committee – Bill Jones will be the ED for BSF

Old and New Business

  1. AFSA National Convention will be held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Club September 27 – 30 2026.
  2. Future dates for 2026 Board & Member Meetings: June 2nd, September 8th, and November 3rd, subject to change
  1. The AFSA VA chapter mourns the loss of former Executive Director Steve McGee’s wife.
  2. Tommy Clemens VSC talked about issues in FLA with reported deficiencies – CMMC on DOD work level 1 thru 3, VSC is level 1 – had to turn down 2 projects because not level 2 yet
  3. Board is requesting topics for October 22nd training seminar
