Bob Beckwith and Jeff Lewis with the AFSA VA Chapter and Burn Survivors Foundation attended the Burn Survivors Sunday event at VCU Health to celebrate burn survivors.

This annual event brings together former patients, families, friends, firefighters/first responders, supporters, and the Evan-Haynes Burn Center staff that cared for them. The event’s focus is outreach, fellowship, and the opportunity to meet other extraordinary individuals to exchange support, share experiences and celebrate life in the spirit of togetherness.

The event featured a bountiful and delicious luncheon buffet, and breakout sessions that included Dr. Feldman, MD demonstrating how they make spray on skin to treat burn victims, using lasers to minimize burn scarring.

It also included Psychologist Judy Emenalo-Strange’s session on “How to Enhance our Coping Skills” which was very emotional with humor and perseverance, which are the key parts of the burn survivors recovery process.

Lastly, they opened the floor for open testimonials to any burn survivors to discuss their injuries and recovery with the help of the Evan-Haynes Burn Center. The testimonials were heartfelt and all were amazed at the advances in medicine to help these burn survivors heal physically and mentally.

A big thank you goes out to the burn team at the Evan Haynes Burn Center for the miracles they perform every day.
